With a short flight, dependable sunshine, calm reefs and brilliant all-inclusive value, Sharm El Sheikh is a genuinely easy family destination. Here’s how to get it right.
Warm, shallow, sheltered bays make for safe paddling and first snorkels, resorts are set up for kids, and the winter climate is mild rather than scorching.
Look at the calmer, lagoon-style bays such as Nabq Bay and family resorts around Sharks Bay and Naama Bay, with gentle beaches and kids’ pools.
House reefs let children see fish just metres from shore, and life jackets are provided on boat trips. A glass-bottom boat trip is a lovely no-swim option for little ones, while older kids will love the calm Ras Mohammed snorkeling boat trip (more in our best snorkeling spots).
A family private desert safari or a 4-seat family buggy safari are big hits, as is swimming with dolphins. Keep day trips short for younger children.
Pack high-factor, reef-safe sunscreen, reef shoes and hats; drink bottled water; and build in shade and rest. Children need the same entry stamp/visa as adults — see our visa guide.
